What are your plans
this Friday?

How would you like to come watch a movie with us??
We’re tired of $$$$ bars, restaurants, and theaters…

This Friday is Cinema Verde,
our outdoor movie presentation!

For absolutely free
(minus a friendly donation if you feel so inclined)
you can hang out at OLD CITY Farm and Guild
and watch some great flicks…

We’ve got a double feature this time around,

Starting with the award winning
Woody Allen film,
Annie Hall (1977)

&

Ending with the hilarious, quirky cult-classic,
Harold and Maude (1971)

We’ll be hanging out enjoying the sunset with some refreshments before hand and then moseying on down to our secret garden for the screening around 8:15

Feel free to bring your favorite drink and snack (some will be provided) and enjoy the show!
Don’t forget your shovel! (Just kidding, we have some)
Check out the Facebook event here!

CAT STEVENS - Miles From Nowhere (Live 1976)
CAT STEVENS – Miles From Nowhere
(Live 1976)

Miles from nowhere
I guess I’ll take my time
Oh yeah, to reach there

Look up at the mountain
I have to climb
Oh yeah, to reach there.

Lord my body has been a good friend
But I won’t need it when I reach the end

Miles from nowhere
Guess I’ll take my time
Oh yeah, to reach there

I creep through the valleys
And I grope through the woods
’cause I know when I find it my honey
It’s gonna make me feel good

I love everything
So don’t it make you feel sad
’cause I’ll drink to you, my baby
I’ll think to that, I’ll think to that.

Miles from nowhere
Not a soul in sight
Oh yeah, but it’s alright

I have my freedom
I can make my own rules
Oh yeah, the ones that I choose

Lord my body has been a good friend
But I won’t need it when I reach the end

Miles from nowhere
I Guess I’ll take my time
Oh yeah, to reach there.

Words of the Week

Owning up to being animal,
a creature of the earth.
Tuning our animal senses
to the sensible terrain:
blending our skin with the rain-rippled surface of rivers,
mingling our ears with the thunder
and the thrumming of frogs,
and our eyes with the molten gray sky.
Feeling the polyrhythmic pulse of this place – this huge windswept body
of water and stone.
This vexed being in whose
flesh we’re entangled.
Becoming Earth. Becoming Animal.
Becoming, in this manner, full human.

Thank you so much for supporting the farm to table movement and choosing OLD CITY Farm and Guild as your drop-off location!  This is a fantastic service that we are offering you, the community!

CSA Drop-off is Thursday
from 4:00pm – 7:30pm

Q: What if I cant pick it up?
A: We do not have refrigeration or enough indoor space to accommodate shares that are not picked up.  If you are unable to pick-up your share by 7:30pm on Thursday, we cannot guarantee holding it.  If you call ahead, we can hold it as late as Friday by 7:00pm.  Any shares not accounted for will be given out and/or delivered to Bread for the City.

Q: When can I pick up my share?
A:
On Thursdays we open at 4:00pm.  Our gates are closed before 4:00pm and our staff are busy taking care of the plants and organizing for pick-up time.  From 4:00pm – 7:30pm is the official pick-up time for CSA members.

Please Note

We support Lancaster Farm’s effort to reduce waste by re-using card-board boxes.  Please bring a bag to pick-up your produce so we can try to save some paper (or cardboard).

If you have any questions for us about hours or holding shares please don’t hesitate to contact us.

Crossings by Ravi Shankar

Between forest and field, a threshold like stepping from a cathedral into the street- the quality of air alters, an eclipse lifts,

boundlessness opens, earth itself retextured into weeds where woods once were. Even planes of motion shift from vertical
navigation to horizontal quiescence: there’s a standing invitation to lie back as sky’s unpredictable theater proceeds.
Suspended in this ephemeral moment after leaving a forest, before entering a field, the nature of reality is revealed.

Salutations!
The plants are loving this rainy Thursday morning,
in the Nations Capital!

 Speaking of plants, you need
to check out our diverse selection!

In addition to our magnificent selection of ornamental plants for your garden, we are living true to our word, and expanding our selection of edible and native plants!

We’ve got a huge selection of herbs and veggies,
and we’ve got a truckload of fruit trees, and tons of natives are on their way!

Blueberries, asparagus, tomatoes, basil, zinnias, pansies, begonias, Japanese maples, organic compost, perennials for the sun & shade, pottery and much much more….

LIKE, local, organic compost and potting soil from
Chesapeake Compost Works
(Frank is thrilled about that!)

You NAME it, we’ve GOT it!

(And if we don’t, we’d be happy to try and order it for you!)

Words of the Week
Kinship
Ella Wheeler Wilcox
1850 – 1919

I am the voice of the voiceless;
Through me the dumb shall speak,
Till the deaf world’s ear be made to hear
The wrongs of the wordless weak.

From street, from cage and from kennel,
From stable and zoo, the wail
Of my tortured kin proclaims the sin
Of the mighty against the frail.

Oh, shame on the mothers of mortals,
Who have not stopped to teach
Of the sorrow that lies in dear, dumb eyes,
The sorrow that has no speech.

The same force formed the sparrow
That fashioned man the king;
The God of the whole gave a spark of soul
To furred and to feathered thing.

And I am my brother’s keeper,
And I will fight his fight,
And speak the word for beast and bird,
Till the world shall set things right.

Grand Opening Saturday, April 13th. At our new location: 925 Rhode Island Ave. NW
